Super happy with a hospitalisation claim

I had to be hospitalised for a very serious medical problem in Vietnam and everything end to end has been great. From using the chat feature when I was first in hospital to understand the process and them emailing me the info, to getting the letter of guarantee in place when I was in intensive care, it's been easy and efficient - when you have a life-threatening heart problem, this is what you want. The doctor from the insurance who called me was empathetic and could tell I was super sick, and the same doctor called a few days later to check things were ok and he was really friendly, as well as doing his job. I've had to make a claim with Safety Wing before and they were a disorganised mess. I'm so glad I was covered with Genki, it made a super stressful time so much easier to cope with.

Happy user for 3 years

I've used Genki for the last 3 years, first as a digital nomad and more recently on a brief trip to Europe now that I am once again based in my home country. Everything about the process is easy and intuitive. I initially picked Genki because they are one of few insurers offering coverage for automobile accidents as part of their digital nomad plan. I have always been reimbursed quickly and relatively painlessly

Great insurance

We can not complain about this insurance. I used it in the Philippines when I went straight to a clinic and asked for a reimburse later (all went well!) and my husband used it in Kuala Lumpur. In his case, he contact Genki before going to the clinic where he had to take a MR and the insurance paid for everything in advance. The assistance was good and it worked so we do recommend Genki :)

5 Stars Experience - Surgery

I had an accident in Indonesia and broke my Fibula bone, went straight to the hospital and my partner contacted our insurance, they were so efficient when the hospital asked for a letter of guarantee costs from Genki. The first contact we made they informed my wife straight away saying don't worry we'll cover all costs. I went through surgery and it was a success, still recovering. After my second follow up at the hospital I had to pay myself and claimed to Genki so still waiting for it as I had to do the last X-ray. It was great experience so far!

The best travel health insurance out there

We have been living abroad and getting an international travelers health insurance for our family of three is what makes sense for us. Genki is the best option for our family with it's low deductible, excellent coverage, and easy sign-up process. We've had a first-hand experience of Genki's great and timely service. Our 18-month old boy recently had an accident where he fell off his high chair and we needed to bring him to the hospital because of continuous vomiting. As you can imagine, this is a parent's nightmare. The whole process of getting all hospital bills covered by Genki was so seamless that as a mom, I felt so secured in knowing that we have a trusted partner in our healthcare. Their direct to hospital payment is so wonderful we didn't have to pay for anything or prepare any documents for reimbursement. It was one less thing to worry about during the whole ordeal. From our family's experience, I'd highly recommend Genki. I believe that more families like us who live abroad and travels a lot should have a health insurance coverage that they can trust.

Great option for long term travellers

My family of 4 travelled the world for a year and used Genki for insurance for the second half of our trip. It was more affordable than our prior insurer and the service was great. It was very easy to sign up. We had two medical claims that were simple to submit and were paid back within a couple weeks. I’d highly recommend Genki for expats or long term travelers.

Very good insurance

The whole process is very easy with Genki. The online platform is clear. Any time I e-mailed them, I received a very quick and very kind answer. Once I needed a medical care, it was easy to submit the documents and I received full cover. The insurance conditions are very good and fair. I can highly recommend.

Great insurance

Great insurance, I've used it for several months in the past few years and unfortunately I had to seek medical attention during my trip so I can testify that genki did it work right, they let me chose the hospital and later the physiotherapist I preferred checking me during all the process through phone calls with their doctors in Germany and after all procide to the refund of all my medical bills, as for now is undoubtedly the best medical insurance I've found.

Have to say they come through

Have to say, I've made 2 big claims with Genki in 2024 due to reoccuring health issues and every time I'm referred to a new specialist they find something else. I started with Genki a year before I needed to claim, and was nervous when medical bills started racking up that they may not come through. They absolutely have, and I feel relieved as I'll be needing another minor surgery soon. Thank you, Genki.

Genki Traveler

This is travel health insurance designed for frequent and long-term travelers, including digital nomads. It provides one year of extensive worldwide coverage for medically necessary care of unexpected injuries and illnesses. It is intended as coverage abroad, outside of your home country.

  • Flexible monthly subscription — from 1 to 12 months

  • Any citizen, any residence — ages up to 69

  • Sign up from home or while already abroad

What is insured?

  • Medical treatment everywhere

You are covered for medical treatment up to a total of €1,000,000, including doctor’s visits (outpatient) and hospitalization (inpatient stays) at public and private doctors and hospitals.

  • Ambulance emergency transport

You are covered for ambulance emergency transport to the nearest hospital that fits your medical needs. This includes road, air, water, and rail vehicles.

  • Consultations & telemedicine

You are covered for doctor consultations to evaluate your symptoms, including telemedicine services.

This is especially helpful when traveling in areas with limited healthcare access.

  • Medical care

You are covered for prescribed medical examinations (like CT, ECG, EKG, MRI, PET, X‑ray), procedures (from minor treatment to major surgery), medication (like antibiotics & painkillers), materials and devices (like crutches, rental walkers & wheelchair).

  • Assistance & direct billing

Our 24/7 emergency assistance manages your inpatient treatment, organizes payments directly to your hospital, and carefully follows your treatment to ensure a high quality of care.

  • Sports injuries

You are covered for almost all sports and activities, including climbing, cycling, diving, hiking, kitesurfing, mountain biking, martial arts, motor vehicle operations, parachuting, skydiving, skiing, snowboarding, and surfing.

Conditions apply to certain sports and activities.

  • Medical repatriation

You are covered for a medically necessary return transport to your home country.

This includes transport by any suitable vehicle, including ambulance and specialized worldwide air ambulance service.

  • Hospital visits

If you are hospitalized with a life-threatening emergency, you are covered to have one family member visit you.

This includes the costs of economy-class travel and standard accommodation, up to €5,000 per insurance case.

  • Physiotherapy

You are covered for up to 6 prescribed physiotherapy sessions per insurance case.

  • Emergency dental treatment

If needed as a result of an accident, you are covered for basic dental care up to €1,000 per insurance case.

What is not insured?

  • Prior health conditions

You are not covered for health conditions that showed symptoms, were diagnosed, treated, or medically consulted within one year before your insurance starts.

You are not covered for chronic conditions, congenital disorders, or physical malformations you knew about before your insurance starts.

  • Key coverage exclusions

    You are not covered for:

    • Dental health care (except for accidents)

    • Alternative health care

    • Mental health care

    • Maternity care

    • Rehabilitative care

    • Preventive health care

If you would like to have this covered, travel health insurance is not the right choice for you. You are looking for international health insurance like Genki Native.

  • Professional & dangerous sports

You are not covered for any sport where you are regularly compensated.

You are not covered for alligator wrestling, BASE jumping, bull riding, hunting, running of the bulls, train surfing, and wingsuit flying.

  • Anything after repatriation

If you are brought back to your home country at the expense of the insurer (repatriation), your insurance ends immediately after you arrive at your destination. Health insurance or public health care in your home country will take over.

You can decide to stay abroad.

  • Non-medical travel costs

We focus on high-quality health insurance, 24/7 emergency assistance, and fast simple reimbursement processes.

You are not covered for trip cancellation, trip interruption, flight delays, lost luggage, loss due to theft or burglary, and personal liabilities.

Are there any restrictions on cover?

  • Deductible

You pay the first €50 per insurance case and the insurer pays the remainder.

For example, treatment for a dislocated shoulder in Bali costs €1,700. You pay €50 and your insurance reimburses the remaining €1,650.

There is no deductible for inpatient stays.

  • Waiting period

If you are already outside of your home country when your insurance starts and you have no prior coverage, only medical emergencies are covered for the first 14 days.

Where am I covered?

  • You are covered in every country worldwide.

  • Coverage in Canada and the USA is limited to the first 7 days of each stay and only includes medical emergencies. You can upgrade to full coverage in both countries for a higher monthly price.

  • Coverage in your home country is always limited to the first 6 weeks of each stay and only includes medical emergencies.

When you sign up, you must state your home country. It must be a country where you are a citizen or a resident.

What are my obligations?

  • For costs of at least €1,000, you must send the insurer an itemized cost estimate at least 5 days before starting the treatment or otherwise incurring the costs. This does not apply to inpatient hospital stays if the emergency assistance is already involved.

  • If required, contact the emergency assistance or the insurer upfront to confirm the coverage.

  • If needed, support the insurer in processing your requests for reimbursement (claims). Communicate and work with us to resolve issues with your payment.

Additionally, provide all information when you sign up completely, accurately, truthfully, and in good faith.

When and how do I pay?

  • The first month will be charged when you sign up for your insurance subscription. Recurring monthly charges happen automatically every month.

  • Your monthly price does not change unless you make changes to your insurance.

When does the cover start and end?

  • You are covered for one year starting from the date you choose.

How do I cancel the contract?

  • You can cancel your subscription anytime after the minimum coverage period of one month.

Any questions?

We’re happy to help!
