Genki Traveler

This is travel health insurance designed for frequent and long-term travelers, including digital nomads. It provides one year of extensive worldwide coverage for medically necessary care of unexpected injuries and illnesses. It is intended as coverage abroad, outside of your home country.

  • Flexible monthly subscription — from 1 to 12 months

  • Any citizen, any residence — ages up to 69

  • Sign up from home or while already abroad

What is insured?

  • Medical treatment everywhere

You are covered for medical treatment up to a total of €1,000,000, including doctor’s visits (outpatient) and hospitalization (inpatient stays) at public and private doctors and hospitals.

  • Ambulance emergency transport

You are covered for ambulance emergency transport to the nearest hospital that fits your medical needs. This includes road, air, water, and rail vehicles.

  • Consultations & telemedicine

You are covered for doctor consultations to evaluate your symptoms, including telemedicine services.

This is especially helpful when traveling in areas with limited healthcare access.

  • Medical care

You are covered for prescribed medical examinations (like CT, ECG, EKG, MRI, PET, X‑ray), procedures (from minor treatment to major surgery), medication (like antibiotics & painkillers), materials and devices (like crutches, rental walkers & wheelchair).

  • Assistance & direct billing

Our 24/7 emergency assistance manages your inpatient treatment, organizes payments directly to your hospital, and carefully follows your treatment to ensure a high quality of care.

  • Sports injuries

You are covered for almost all sports and activities, including climbing, cycling, diving, hiking, kitesurfing, mountain biking, martial arts, motor vehicle operations, parachuting, skydiving, skiing, snowboarding, and surfing.

Conditions apply to certain sports and activities.

  • Medical repatriation

You are covered for a medically necessary return transport to your home country.

This includes transport by any suitable vehicle, including ambulance and specialized worldwide air ambulance service.

  • Hospital visits

If you likely have to stay in a hospital for more than five days a close friend or family member can visit you. We pay for their travel costs.

  • Physiotherapy

You are covered for up to 6 prescribed physiotherapy sessions per insurance case.

  • Emergency dental treatment

If needed as a result of an accident, you are covered for basic dental care up to €1,000 per insurance case.

What is not insured?

  • Prior health conditions

You are not covered for health conditions that showed symptoms, were diagnosed, treated, or medically consulted within one year before your insurance starts.

You are not covered for chronic conditions, congenital disorders, or physical malformations you knew about before your insurance starts.

  • Key coverage exclusions

    You are not covered for:

    • Dental health care (except for accidents)

    • Alternative health care

    • Mental health care

    • Maternity care

    • Rehabilitative care

    • Preventive health care

If you would like to have this covered, travel health insurance is not the right choice for you. You are looking for international health insurance like Genki Native.

  • Professional & dangerous sports

You are not covered for any sport where you are regularly compensated.

You are not covered for alligator wrestling, BASE jumping, bull riding, hunting, running of the bulls, train surfing, and wingsuit flying.

  • Anything after repatriation

If you are brought back to your home country at the expense of the insurer (repatriation), your insurance ends immediately after you arrive at your destination. Health insurance or public health care in your home country will take over.

You can decide to stay abroad.

  • Non-medical travel-related costs

    This is high-quality health insurance.

Trip cancellation, trip interruption, flight delays, lost luggage, loss due to theft or burglary, and personal liabilities aren't covered.

Are there any restrictions on cover?

  • Deductible

There is a deductible of €50 per case. The insurance covers costs in excess of that deductible.

For example, given a doctor's bill of €1,000 you would pay €50 and we would pay the remaining €950.

Also, €250 will be deducted for treatment in U.S. emergency rooms unless medically necessary.

  • Waiting period

If you are already outside of your home country when your insurance starts and you have no prior coverage, only medical emergencies are covered for the first 14 days.

Where am I covered?

  • You are covered in every country worldwide.

  • Coverage in Canada and the USA is limited to the first 7 days of each stay and only includes medical emergencies. You can upgrade to full coverage in both countries for a higher monthly price.

  • Coverage in your home country is always limited to the first 6 weeks of each stay and only includes medical emergencies.

When you sign up, you must state your home country. It must be a country where you are a citizen or a resident.

What are my obligations?

  • For costs of at least €1,000, you must send the insurer an itemized cost estimate at least 5 days before starting the treatment or otherwise incurring the costs. This does not apply to inpatient hospital stays if the emergency assistance is already involved.

  • If required, contact the emergency assistance or the insurer upfront to confirm the coverage.

  • If needed, support the insurer in processing your requests for reimbursement (claims). Communicate and work with us to resolve issues with your payment.

Additionally, provide all information when you sign up completely, accurately, truthfully, and in good faith.

When and how do I pay?

  • The first month will be charged when you sign up for your insurance subscription. Recurring monthly charges happen automatically every month.

  • Your monthly price does not change unless you make changes to your insurance.

When does the cover start and end?

  • You are covered for one year starting from the date you choose.

How do I cancel the contract?

  • You can cancel your subscription anytime after the minimum coverage period of one month.
